At our next meeting on 8th December, we are inviting members and visitors to explore our collection of old photographs of the Deepings, local maps and trade directories, parish magazines, census returns, St. Guthlac’s burial records and fascinating local documents.
Some items, like the poster below, have recently been donated to Deepings Heritage.
Note the unusual entertainments in 1939, such as “Knocking George’s Hat Off” and the Ladies’ & Gent’s Ankle Show!
Corinthian Board was a type of bagatelle, but does anyone know how “Pegging the Chain” and Totting were played?
We shall also have local history displays on a variety of subjects – Holland’s Distillery, the Middle Row in the Market Place, the Green School, the Deepings in the Second World War etc
There will be a rolling slideshow of the Deepings through time and a “fun” quiz on local life in the 1600s.
Seasonal refreshments will be available.
Come and see what you can discover!
The event takes place in the Conference Centre, Deepings School at 7.30pm. Charge for non-members £2.
